Shale plays

China's fledgling shale gas business struggling.


Sinopec Vice President Ma Yongsheng said that the company's shale gas sector is barely breaking even. Production costs at its Fuling project are 1.1 yuan (18.0¢)/m3. Fuling accounted for around 66% of China's 9B m3 (318B cf) of shale production last year. Total natural gas output in the country approached 150B m3 (5 trillion cf) in 2017. (Feb 1)
