Profit Margins

US coking, cracking margins rise on the Gulf Coast.

Coking and cracking margins posted small increases on the Gulf Coast in Jan., up for the second month in a row, while margins in the Midcontinent were less rosy, posting slight declines. Margins in both regions generally kept their spreads to one another intact, posting similar ups and downs, with the exception being the Bakken/WCS cracking margin in the Midcon, which fell more significantly than the other margins, settling nearly even with the WTI cracking margin. The following chart shows global coking margins from Aug. 2016 through Jan. 2017, as reported by the IEA.
