The unconventional crudes include heavy sour grades, bitumen derived from Canadian oilsands, extra heavy crude from Venezuela's tarsands, high TAN (or acidic crude), oil shale as well as light shale/tight oil (LTO.) These crudes are said to be "price-advantaged" because they are often traded at a deep discount to international benchmarks, such as North Sea Brent.
